The 2018 Vermont General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, with voting outside the Northfield Middle/High School Auditorium from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You also can vote absentee in the Town Clerk's Office, pick up a ballot (your own), or have a ballot mailed to you. The Town of Northfield, Vermont has two openings for equipment operator/laborers within the Town's Highway Department. The highway equipment operator/laborer performs truck driving, plowing, and maintenance of roads and other town infrastructure. These are full-time hourly positions. The Leaf Picker will start operating on Monday, October 15, 2018. Leaf collection will continue through Friday, November 16, 2018 or until the first snowstorm (whichever comes first). The Town of Northfield is pleased to announce the hiring of John Helfant as the Town's new Police Chief. John brings twenty-eight years of law enforcement experience to Northfield and has local ties to the area as a resident of East Roxbury. He graduated with high honors from Seton Hall University with a BA in criminal justice. A majority of his law enforcement career was with the State of Vermont having spent seven years at the Derby Station and eighteen years at the Royalton Station. He achieved the rank of Senior Sergeant and was a patrol commander in which he supervised six to eight officers. John brings extensive experience in high profile drug investigations and community outreach to the Northfield Police Department. John comes very highly recommended and is well known and highly respected in the Vermont Law Enforcement Community. John Helfant is scheduled to begin as Northfield's Police Chief on Monday, October 22 2018.
The Northfield Recreation Committee is holding their 2nd annual Trunk-or-Treat on Halloween night, Wednesday, October 31, 2018, on the on the south side of the Common. If you would like to participate in this fun event please call Susan Wright (485-6227) for a slot and for details. There were over three hundred youngsters taking part last year and more are expected this year so please buy your goodies accordingly. This event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Town of Northfield asks if you usually park your vehicle on the south side of the Common on Wednesdays, please find a different location for it after 12:00 p.m. That side of the Common will be closed off in preparation for this event. Thank you for your cooperation.
The final Household Hazardous Waste Event of the year will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Randolph VT at the closed landfill past the Randolph Transfer Station.
